The Carlson Surveyor is a very durable, fast and high-quality well-equipped data collector. There are two models of the Carlson Surveyor, the Surveyor and the Surveyor+. The Surveyor+ is the better of the two, running at 624mhz and 128mb RAM. The Surveyor is cheaper than the Surveyor+ with reduced functionality, but still runs at 520mhz with a 64mb RAM. Performance of both data collectors will improve if the SurvCE 2.0 is used on both.
The Surveyor comes with a storage capacity of 512mb, while the Surveyor+ comes with 1gb and is still expandable with a MicroSD port found in the battery compartment. Both come with a 26-button alpha keyboard and a 0-9 numerical keyboard; both also come with four keys used as ctrl, alt, shift and second functions. Speakers for both are found on each side of the keyboard with a microphone above the navigation key.
On top of the Surveyor+ are two DB9 ports, a charging port, a USB client mini port and a full USB host port. Both are equipped with Bluetooth. The battery life of the two ranges from 8-10 hours in a single battery. It is possible to have a spare battery, since changing the battery is easily done through its very accessible battery compartment. The touch screen comes in full color, is 3.5 inches diagonally, and it comes with a resolution of 240×320 pixels. The styluses of both Surveyors are found on the top of the unit. All these are housed with a Magnesium housing to give you a solid feel.
Running on Windows mobile, the Surveyor and Surveyor+ could cope up with everyday office chores, have WiFi and internet access, while SurvCE handles almost everything full software packages handled in the past. SurvCE is very reliable software that makes the Carlson Surveyor even better. Data loss isn’t a problem anymore, while functionality is as good if not better than other software out in the market.
