A Problem with Display
if you have the same PC system requirements – Windows 7 and NVidia driver – then you might have already encountered display problems. More to the point, you may have noticed that your windows have a hard time maintaining their position on 1 of two displays.

Another possible problem could be your dialogue boxes. Try to change their size and you’ll notice that your dialog box would ‘slide’ down your screen until it has completely sunk into your taskbar whenever you click on it.

A Problem with the Upgrade, Too
Like any normal PC user, you then resort to the upgrades offered by NVidia for Windows 7 users. Upgrades, after all, are designed to fix all such issues. The problem is, the upgrade you download might end up making your problem worse.

When you have the upgrade installed, there were no signs of errors. But don’t celebrate just yet because when you proceed to using your computer, you could end up experiencing the very undesirable BSOD or ‘blue screen of death’. This blue screen, with its white text explaining your present predicament, is virtually tantamount to your system crashing. Try rebooting your PC after this and if the BSOD still shows up then you should know that it’s your driver at fault.

Use Previous Video Driver
Don’t worry because there are various ways to cure your PC’s blue screen. Pull out the properties dialog box for your video driver. You’ll then see a button for ‘Roll Back Driver’. This comes with a helpful description of its function: if your most recent device driver update fails for whatever reason, clicking this button would allow you to forget about the new update and make use of a previously installed driver.

This is a very helpful option because its quick-fix solution will not affect the rest of the system. Only the update for the affected device will be changed; other device driver updates will be maintained.

Create a Restore Point
To play it more safely, you should also create a restore point with your computer’s System Restore Utility. It’s best to do this before allowing Windows Updates to run for Windows 7. Choose a particular function or activity as your restore point and your OS will go back to this point if you encounter similar problems in the future.

Windows XP was also the main competitor of Linux when it came to powering netbooks. Vista was never a competitor at this battle. The reason was that Vista had heavier hardware requirements when running software. There were some software where vista needed twice what XP required. This made laptop and netbook  users dismayed and made them hesitate to use Vista.

Microsoft however is now coming up with a newer operating system that could rival XP. It is called Windows 7. Windows 7 boasts lighter hardware requirements that of Vista. It also has a Virtual Windows XP mode, which means that most if not all XP drivers will work well with Windows 7. Those who chose not to try Vista wouldn’t hesitate that much to try Windows 7.

XP mode contains the Virtual PC-based environment and a licensed copy of Windows XP Service Pack 3. It will be given free to the users of Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional, and Ultimate editions through a download at Microsoft’s official website. This means that Windows SP3 wouldn’t come with the box of Windows 7.

Windows 7 with it’s XPM compatibilities will prove helpful to all users, as they will be able to run old applications and new ones alike. This is also very convenient as there are a lot of XP users who have been accustomed to Windows XP. They will find XPM to be almost the same as XP only better. XP and Vista users alike wouldn’t regret shifting to Windows 7.

In my opinion, Windows 7 will be the next big thing for Microsoft. It’s driver and software compatibilities wouldn’t give you problems when trying to run your old applications and new ones too. It also will be very convenient to laptop and netbook users as its hardware requirements are a lot lighter than those of Vista. It’s XPM feature will also be very helpful to those who are used to using Windows XP. Overall this new step for Microsoft will make it top dog on the OS market.

Intel, with the collaboration of Microsoft, had already released a pre-production version of Windows 7 drivers, the WDDM1.1, for graphic chipsets. Intel said that the WDDM1.1 is designed for “enabling the full Windows 7 experience”.

Early this year, Microsoft had ordered OEMs to test their products on Windows 7 once the beta version is released to avoid the problems, that is hardware makers not having compatible drivers ready, that Windows Vista encountered during its launch last January 2007. Computer and other hardware makers are told that “Beginning with the first beta of Windows 7 all Windows Vista submissions must include a complete CPK with test logs from Windows 7″ else they will not qualify for Microsoft’s Windows Logo certified compatibility program for Windows 7 or Windows Vista.

Windows 7 is Windows Vista’s successor in the making. It is still in development as stated but it is expected to be out by late 2009 or early 2010. Windows 7 features was first unveiled by Microsoft at its Los Angeles Professional Developers Conference last October. Expected release of a beta disk is January of next year but  Microsoft said that Windows 7 will not be shipped until early of 2010.
