First it was the ball mouse, then the optical mouse and finally the laser mouse, but Microsoft wants to add another stage to the evolution with BlueTrack.

Microsoft BlueTrack technology promises to give the best mice experience by combining the precision of laser sensors with the tracking capability of optical mice. According to Microsoft, their technology allows the mouse to work on a wide array of surfaces – from smooth granite to a rough carpet.

This new technology will be used in two different products, the Microsoft Explorer and the Explorer Mini Mouse. The Microsoft Explorer caters to laptop users who want a snap-in transceiver peripheral. The device is rechargeable and can be used for three weeks per charge. It has an LED battery-charge indicator. The mouse if fashioned with a blue lighting paint on its bottom.

The Explorer Mini Mouse on the other hand relies on a direct power source, thus making it suitable for desktop PCs and immobile workstations. This mouse is smaller than the Microsoft Explorer and can also run on a single AA battery.

The Microsoft Explorer Mouse will be tagged at $99.95 while the Explorer Mini will be sold for $79.99 starting October.
