Olidata Conte ultraportable may be beating up other thin laptops very soon. It has 13.3-inch clear LCD screen with 16:9 contrast ratio and 1366×768 display resolution.

Reports indicated that there will be two versions, one with a 16:10, 1280×800 display, and one widescreen with a 16:9, 1366×768 display. Both of these units will sport Core 2 Duo processor. They will also have optional built-in 3G or WiMAX. Battery according to the manufacturer lasts up to four hours. The higher contrast ratio version has added features like Intel Turbo Memory, a fingerprint reader, a classy backlit keyboard, and 3GB of RAM.

Olidata Conte Ultraportable will be available in Europe this coming May. It will be around US$1,300.

Contrary to common belief that this new LCD is only suited for outdoor use, the screen works perfectly even when it is place inside of your home.

The new LCD is one of LG electronics’ products to be showcased at the 2009 CES. Its application is the new 14.1-inch laptop display. The screen will carry a proud label of “Backlight Data Signal Switching Technology” which readily means that can have indoor and outdoor modes for your monitor, a feature that customizes effect for high-luminance and low-light indoor settings.

The reflective mode of the LCD has a record of 75% power reduction – a very good reason to consider it a green monitor. It also showcases a 9:1 contrast ratio which based on reviews a very good improvement.

A review from Engadget tells that the new product is comparable to Epson’s 3.5-inch a-TFT, only newer.

A lot are happy (not really surprised) that the company released the product long before CES 2009. Because of the releases, there are now speculations that a 1TB SSD could be on the rise.

The first 512 GB SSD is the main attraction of Toshiba’s new line of 43nm MLC drives. Alongside the unveiling of the half a terabyte drive are the new 64GB, 128GB and 256GB units in both 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch form factors. These are smaller and more durable according to the maker.

“The solid state drive market is evolving rapidly, with higher performance drives to meet market requirements, and differentiated product families targeted for appropriate applications,” said Mr. Kiyoshi Kobayashi, Vice President of Toshiba Corporation’s Semiconductor Company. “This new 43nm SSD family balances value/performance characteristics for its targeted consumer applications, through use of MLC NAND and an advanced controller architecture.”

There is no word on the pricing yet.

Vice President in charge of Flat Panel Development HS Kim expressed that the general population may see the huge TV in the coming CES this January 2009.

As of this writing, the largest OLED panels in existence have a size of 40-inches. The release of OLED TV from Samsung will be a great advancement in visual entertainment. Although Samsung supposedly promised to showcase the 50-inch OLED TV in 2009, experts agree that consumers won’t be able to take one home until 2010.

According to HS Kim, among the factors that they are considering is the current price at which a 50-inch OLED TV would have should it become available today. “I’m sure that if we marketed such a set at ten times the price of current LCD TVs, which is what it would be now, no-one would buy it,” the VP said.
