FastMac Unveils Three Slimline USB Blu-ray Drives

FastMac introduced three Slimline USB Blu-ray drives for as low as $99.

The APP-6907 DVD±RW / BD drive is very cheap at $9 and it a Black External Slimline USB 2.0 Blu-ray (BD-ROM) Optical Drive With SuperDrive Multi Functions. It has a maximum of 8X CD-RW Writing speed.

Next is the 299 APP-6963 1x BD-R drive that has the following read speed: 24X CD-ROM; 8X DVD-ROM and 1.6X BD-ROM.

Last but definitely not the least one the line is the APP-6964 4x BD-R drive. It is tagged at $399. It has Write speed of 4x BD-R up to 16x CD-RW and Read speed of 4x BD, 24x CD and 8x DVD.
Just before you rush into things, you might be interested to know that Apple’s QuickTime software does not support the decoding and playback of encrypted Blu-ray movies. It means that watching commercial Blu-ray movies using Mac OS X is still impossible.

Fujitsu Releases New Lifebook A6220 Laptop with Blu-ray, UWB, Swappable Colour Shells

Fuitsu released a new Lifebook laptop that has Blu-ray system, UWB and swappable colour shells. This Lifebook A6220 and it is the most high-end laptop from Fujitsu to date.

The laptop sports changeable casing that comes for an additional fee. This laptop’s hardware is packed by powerful processors and chips. It has an HDMI-out and Centrino 2 p8400 Core 2 Duo processor. Its memory runs sweet with 4 GB RAM with 1.9 GB of HyperMemory support and ATI Radeon HD 3470 advanced graphics.

The new laptop also boasts a touchpad almost similar to a trackpad. It has gesture-enabled touchpad for where users can freely zoom and scroll at their finger’s whim. The unit also comes with wireless USB support. There is also a fingerprint sensor for added security.

The changeable covers come in red, gold and purple colours and are tagged at $US20 each. The Lifebook A6220 comes in $US1299 or $1US499 configurations.

Toshiba Unveils DVD-Enhancing Technology

Toshiba recently revealed its new technology that enhances high quality images of DVDs. Called XDE, short for extended detail enhancement, this new technology will be incorporated in the company’s XD-E500 DVD player.

Toshiba’s XDE has a relatively higher price compared to its many DVD player counterparts. But the company stressed during its release that the new player offers very high DVD picture quality. This is a part of the company’s campaign to stress that HD DVD is far better than Blu-ray formats.

Thru XDE, viewing can be experienced by as much as 1920 by 1080 pixel resolution. This is a big improvement compared to the 640 by 480 pixel standard resolution of TVs. This increase in definition results in clearer and sharper images. Colors also appear more vivid and with high clarity.

However, research conducted by ABI Research revealed that consumers aren’t so enthusiastic on switching to Blu-ray players. This is mainly because of the Blu-ray’s whopping price. Toshiba sees this very positively. Louis Masses, director of product planning for Toshiba stressed that their company is serious in delivering to the consumers what they want at an affordable price.

The XDE player is tagged at $150.
