The description is indeed enticing; in fact MWC is supposed to reveal more details about the project soon. From what we’ve read or heard the device uses OMAP3 processor and as stated it can work as a phone and as a tablet.

Pictures are being hunt down so we’ll post some as soon as we get a hold of them, for the meantime you can read more about its specs.

According to sources, it will have 500 GB drive, that’s half a terabyte and really decent for something you can term as a phone. The battery will last up 7 hours of video playback. It has flash support. The operating system used is Android.

If all goes into plan, we can have this unit in third quarter of this year.

The news that will perhaps boost the morale of open source lovers is not a rumor but an official announcement made by the company.

Vice President at Nokia’s markets unit Ukko Lappalainen said the following to Reuters reporter: In the longer perspective, Linux will become a serious alternative for our high-end phones.

Prior to this, Google released its Linux-based Android phone. The G-Phone is a proof that big names and companies are realizing the potential of open source as a viable platform for development.

Nokia uses Linux maemo software in its niche offering of Internet tablets, while it uses Symbian software for its phones.

“I don’t see anything in Android which would make it better than Linux maemo,” Lappalainen also added that he doesn’t see anything in Android which would make it better than Linux maemo.”

This is what DigiTimes reported earlier. However the site failed to disclose their source, nevertheless, the said that it is a reliable claim.

The report also hinted that the new phone may initially be available in Taiwan. Asus is an electronic device manufacturer based in Taiwan. Analysts assume that after only a sort of market test, will the phone be shipped to other continents, including United States of course.

Asus currently offers a range of Windows Mobile smartphones. This includes M930 and P750. These phones had reviews that are far from being favourable, according to The Register.

T-Mobile and Google teamed up to bring the first Android-based mobile phone today. The T-Mobile G1 or simple G1 appears to be picking a fight against the popular Apple iPhone. The developers of G1 told the press during an online streaming yesterday that their new smartphone sports an open platform.

The phone sports a few features that are not available in other phones. The G1 will have an Amazon mobile music store preloaded. It has a built in QWERTY keyboard. It is incorporated with numerous online applications such as the Google Maps, Android Market and it is YouTube integrated.

As this is a joint project of T-Mobile and Google, the phone will be locked to T-Mobile. The phone can also read basic MS Office applications like Word and Excel. It can also open PDF files.

The G1 has a screen size of 480 x 320. It has a built-in 3.1MP camera. The battery allows up to 5 hours of continuous talk time. It has 1GB MicroSD card that is upgradeable up to 8GB, GPS and accelerometer. Connectivity will not be a problem since it is Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth ready.

Walt Mossberg a gadget enthusiast noted that the G1 phone is a “versatile device which will offer users a real alternative in the new handheld computing category the iPhone has occupied alone.”

The phone will be made available in October 22. It is tagged at $179 with a 2 year binding contract with T-Mobile.
