The World’s First Half-Mini Card Triple-Mode Global Receiver PC TV Tuner Released!

The first ever triple-mode PC TV tuner provides access to the broadest array of global content for an enhanced viewing experience. Viewers across Asia, Europe and North America will all enjoy the enhanced high definition TV access directly through their notebook PC. This is possible due to the combined analog/ DVB-T/ DMBT-H or analog/ DVB-T/ ATSC reception. The design of this chip was specifically created to meet the demands for both enhanced battery life and lower power consumption for extended recording and viewing of TV on notebook and desktop PCs. It generally has an improved functionality.

The PCTV accepts IF signals from up to 3 RF tuners for DVB-S, analog TV and DVB-T. It allows the combination of 2 broadcast stream signals to be captured and decoded simultaneously. Aside from the TV tuner signals, SAA7231 also processes analog baseband audio/ video signals like YPbPr/RGB, stereo S-video and CVBS. This single tuner for DVB-T and analog TV reception can really be a solution for space-restricted or cost sensitive applications with its one system enabled at real time.

SAA7231’s hybrid PCTV capture device and reception includes complete IR remote control functionality for Windows 7 both in Quad Pulse and RC6 standards. This provides an ideal foundation for Windows 7, XP and Vista operated PCs. It also provides additional features such as VBI data capture, FM radio reception and video enhancements through color decoding and 2D noise reduction.

As Microsoft Program Manager, Tony Mangefeste puts, this chip reflects the customer’s interests and top priorities which will make daily tasks simpler and faster even on the most complicated multimedia applications. He added that this tuner really gives the users great viewing experience on their Windows 7.

Why Many Find That MagicJack Is Not Magic

Let’s talk about magicJack. What is it exactly?

MagicJack is a USB device from Telco vet Dan Borislow that connects to any computer with the Windows operating system. It has a standard RJ-11 phone connector where your phones can be attached to. It has a device driver and a usermode software that allows it to connect a Windows PC to a phone and the phone automatically becomes operational. A softphone is booted by the device onto the PC monitor.

The device comes with special device driver and usermode software that attaches the various phones to the magicJack servers over the Internet. The attachment of such is only possible if you subscribe annually to magicJack with subscription priced at $19.99.  The standard UDP/IP packets are then connected to a standard phone network so that it functions as a regular phone.

The features of the device driver is that it allows the following functions: voicemail, a search link that goes directly to Google, and conference calling.

Many has been said about magicJack and there were just too many negative comments. First of all, magicJack works only on a working Windows PC which means that if there is a power outage, your phone connection goes with the outage. What’s worse is that magicJack’s End User License Agreement that states that the user should surrender all privacy when it comes to call recipients and that it protects the company from any legal liability that may come out of using the product.

There are other issues that do not agree with the clients. The free voicemail it offers is kept in remote servers that they maintain themselves. The voicemail, by the way, will not work if there is power outage. The driver-installed magicJack opens web traffic to too many unnecessary advertisements, making it difficult to maneuver.

The worst complaint about magicJack is the driver and the installation process. Since magicJack  comes with its own device drivers that, as soon as you plug the USB to the port, is supposed to install on its own by running automatically. The problem starts when, after running the software, the message “No audio devices found; no output/input devices are found” comes out. Then the screen goes blank and re-boots.  This is completely annoying for first-time users.

Although, magicJack was designed to serve a good purpose for PC and phone users, many have been irked by the many flaws. However, there are still satisfied customers around who have been loyally using the device.
