SanDisk and Sony to Expand Memory Stick PRO / Micro to 2TB
The future of memory sticks and micro cards is here; its 2TB SDXC making 2TB standard hard drives look Jurassic.
Sony and SanDisk just boasted that they will be making the Memory Stick PRO / Memory Stick Micro have the same capacity. That is a whopping 2TB for that small piece of memory device. The giants don’t have a name yet for the device, calling it “Memory Stick format for Extended High Capacity” as of this writing. Obviously they haven’t thought of what to call the monstrous memory storage but we are certain of the impact that it would bring the general public.
The new format will pave way for a faster data transfer rate. And at 60 megabytes per second sped, it will be the fastest-smallest memory card formats to date.
Tech blogs noted that the new Memory Stick PRO / Memory Stick Micro will change by which small mobile devices uses their memory. With 2TB in disposal, new units can simply do more with less space.
According to Engadget: If all goes to plan, production should get going on the new formats sometime this year, so it’s safe to say the race to a new top is officially on. And we certainly couldn’t agree more.
