Canon Kills PowerShot A470, Brings in A480

When one dies, another one is born. We never imagined that this can be applied to digital cameras, but Canon just did it.

Canon is retiring its PowerShot A470. Starting this season, A470 will not be available to the market anymore. Instead, a logically better and more advanced A480 will be out.

PowerShot A480 is a 10 megapixel camera and it is 25% more lightweight compared to its predecessor A470. The new PowerShot also has a a 3.3x optical zoom which translate to 4x max digital zoom. It has a 2.5-inche LCD display and an impressive DIGIC III processor.

PowerShot and perhaps power design, Canon will be releasing this new model in different colors to suit your style: red, blue, black, and silver.

A4870 also sports a more compact body and easier operation plus a few features like motion detection and face detection. It can also take video in smooth, 30fps VGA movies with Long Play mode. Pictures can be taken in seven different resolutions between 320 x 240 to 3648 x 2736. If this is not enough, there are a total of 15 shooting modes when one can choose from.

There is no word yet on when will this be available in the US, but the European market can immediately enjoy this next month. It will be tagged at £129.00 or around US$188.

MSI Releases Wind NetTop D130

MSI revealed its first dual-core mini workstration, the Wind NetTop D130. This computer is powered by latest Intel Atom 330 dual-core CPU and 2GB DDR2 memory, meaning it is raw power packed in a small box.

MSI’s wind computer series uses less electricity compared to other units, and this new member of the family is no different. The design and parts of the computer can save you as much as 90% on electric consumption.

At full speed, the Wind NetTop D130 uses only 35W of power, that is only 10% of what other units with similar capacity (or even lesser) consume. Other computers uses between 250W to 300W power like ATX chassis.

Wind NetTop D130 has a built-in Super-Multi DVD burner and 7.1-channel surround sound output, making it a decent entertainment computer system.

It also sports what MSI termed as “Nordic Simple Style,” a style that is based on a trendy home furnishing and texture.

Pricing and market availability is still not announced, but analysts predict the price to be at around $240.

Mouse Computer Releases Netbook with DVD-Rom

Mouse Computer a Japan based electronic manufacturer joins the netbook industry by releasing a netbook with optical DVD drive. The LB-F1500W is small and not much different with other netbooks, aside of course from its DVD-Rom.

LB-F1500W comes in pre-installed with XP Home. It has N270 Atom CPU running at 1.6GHz speed. Its 10.2 inch screen has 1024 x 600 resolution. So there’s really nothing new with this netbook, even its 160GB hard drive is not that noteworthy. Although it has a DVD-Rom that other netbooks don’t have.

Reprots indicated that this will be sold by the end of the month at a tag of 64,800 yen, equivalent to $729, slightly higher than Eee PC by Asus.
