Mouse Drivers: A Critical Part Of Any System

A PC mouse is simply an input device so that the user can interact with the system. The mouse allows the user to position the cursor and control the GUI of the operating system. The first mouse has a patent received in the year 1970, and the description stated it was an X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System. Patent #3,541,541 was awarded to Douglas Engelbart for this device. The mouse was not widely used until it was adopted by Apple in the year 1984. When Windows became available, the mouse sales really took off. Almost every PC used today is connected to a mouse, and this device is still popular because of the ease of use, even though there are other input devices that can be used. Only two actions are needed, either drag and drop or point and click.

In the beginning it was common for the mouse to connect with a cord, but it is popular today to use a mouse that is wireless. Mouse design has also kept up with innovation and technology. Mice changed from trackballs to optical pointing devices. Trackballs were efficient concerning cursor movement, but the dust and dirt could clog up the trackball and cause problems, plus a mouse pad was needed. Optical mice use a light beam instead of a trackball, do not require a mouse pad, and also can not clog up.

There are many alternate input devices that have been sold, but none could compare in popularity among users with the PC mouse. Trackballs can be used, but this feels awkward and slow to many PC users, and these never caught on well. Touch pads can be used with many laptop PCs, but even users of these systems normally use a USB mouse when sitting at a desk.

Manufacturers of PC Mice

The leading manufacturer of computer mice is Logitech. This company developed the cordless air mouse, which includes “Freespace” motion technology and laser tracking, making it a high technology solution. Mice can also include hand gesture controls and wave and click controls. Logitech has also introduced gaming mice, Bluetooth computer mice, and interchangeable grips.

Products from Razer mainly consist of computer mice intended for gaming needs. These mice are high performance, and include many features such as adjustable sensitivity, precision controls, cool looks, and multiple programmable buttons. Sony offers Skype mouse, which also functions as a Skype phone. The mouse flips open so that the phone is activated for a call, and then flips shut and goes back to work as a mouse.

The PC mouse has come a long way from the description listed on the patent. No more wires are needed, as there are wireless mice available, and the trackball has been replaced by optical devices. From the way it looks, the mouse is here to stay as the favorite PC input device for consumers.

There are many companies that develop and create mouse drivers. These companies include Canyon, Microsoft, AVB, Memorex, Adomax, Yakumo, Cyber Snipa, Cherry, Kensington, Gembird, Genius, DIGITUS, Jasco, and many more.
