Marvell Selects Intrinsyc for S60 Symbian Development

Development of S60 device drivers for Marvell 88W8688 dual-radio WLAN plus Bluetooth chip will be done by the Solutions Engineering group of Intrinsic. This came about after Marvell, a world leader in storage, consumer silicon solutions, and communications, had an agreement with Intrinsyc, one of the leading software solutions provider for mobile devices. The agreement was announced last Monday during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
The Marvell 88W8688 is so far the first device of its kind that can deliver a fully integrated Bluetooth 2.1 EDR baseband/RF. It is also true for Marvell’s 802.11a/b/g WLAN technology which is already market-proven for the next generation consumer electronic devices. Subsystem implementation of a converged WLAN + Bluetooth can be smaller by up to 50% than a discrete implementation by using the Marvell 88W8688. The Marvell 88W8688 can also enhance the customer experience by giving them seamless bridging between Bluetooth and WiFi.
According to Dr. Partho Mishra of Marvell, “Several major device OEMs have requested S60 drivers so they can deploy the 88W8688 on handsets running the S60 Symbian environment,” and he further said that “Our decision to work with Intrinsyc was based on several factors. First, we needed an S60 Competence Center with local resources, and Intrinsyc is the most experienced center in North America. We also knew Intrinsyc from past successful engagements with Marvell, as well as Intrinsyc’s driver development work for Symbian. We have a great deal of confidence in Intrinsyc’s ability to deliver the drivers on time and within budget.”
