Latest ATI Linux Video Driver Released

A new and improved version of AMD’s ATI Catalyst Linux display driver was recently announced and is available for the x86 and x86_64 architechtures. The new display driver, the ATI Catalyst 9.1 now offers fully stable support for Linux operating system Ubuntu 8.10. It also has Hybrid CrossFire support, Multiview support and full OpenGL 3.0 support.

The full OpenGL 3.0 support is by far the most important feature of the new ATI Catalyst 9.1 Linux display driver. The OpenGL 3.0 extensions below are already supported in Catalyst 9.1.

· ARB_half_float_vertex
· ARB_texture_rg
· EXT_texture_array
· EXT_texture_integer
· EXT_transform_feedback
· NV_conditional_render
· WGL/GLX_create_context (for new 3.0 contexts)
· GLSL 1.3
· ARB_color_buffer_float
· ARB_vertex_array_object
· EXT_draw_buffers2.

Owners of AMD 780G/780D and ATI Radeon HD 2400/3400 can also experience a boost in 3D performance with the newly introduced support for Hybrid Graphics. Lastly, with Catalyst 9.1, users can either use a single or multiple GPU configurations with its own individual displays. ATI Radeon 2000 and 3000 series graphics card are supported by the Multiview feature.

The supported operating systems are Red Hat Enterprise Linux,  Novell SUSE Enterprise Linux, and Ubuntu 8.10.
