Kindle 2.0 to Come Early in 2009

Amazon will be released the new version of its Kindle reader early next year. The company made a lot of improvements in its ebook reader, both aesthetically and technically. Kindle 2.0 is now thinner and longer, making it sleeker and at least, classier. Its specifications are also beefed up with improvements on its processor.

But there is more to this release according to TechCrunch. Reports indicated that shortly after Kindle 2.0 release, a new student version of the reader will be unveiled, this time targeting the wider reader market by being able to display wide and long academic book pages. This will be released in the first half of next year.

Earlier rumors indicated that Kindle 2.0 will be out on October 2008, something that the big company is not happy about. According to some analysts, the company aggressively denied such rumours since kindle is their first hardware. Now it doesn’t need a wide reader to understand that any company would be careful with that.

The report from TechCrunch also noted that the companies that have similar projects would likely get idea from Kindle, something that Amazon logically doesn’t want to happen according to TC. As of this writing, Plastic Logic is working on a similar device.
