Nvidia publicizes their new set of WHQL-certified drivers to formally support the just-released GeForce GTX 275 and the standard GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, and 200-series desktop GPUs. These drivers also provide support for Nvidia PhysX acceleration on the GeForces mentioned above as long as it has a minimum of 256MB graphics memory.
What makes the new version much better? The version 182.50 package is composed of drivers that are supposed to optimize single GPU and SLI support for PC games and bug fixes that will soon come out in the market. Not only that, it also has the ability to heighten performance in games like Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead.
The drivers still belong to the 182 family so, therefore, still cannot support advance features like Ambient Occlusion. This feature simply makes old games look better because of better light and shadow effects for more realism.
These drivers come unified so that features can be used all at the same time making it so much more convenient for the users.Although the drivers are unified in one package, bug fixes are can only solve problems for newer products and not for the older ones. But for those who have new products have proven how effective it was in fixing bugs.
Users who have tried the package found some glitches though. For one, even if the drivers showed stable performance, the gaming graphics did not show any improvement. If there are improvements, they are too slight to be noticeable. Also, watching movies with avi files show a little flickering.
Also, the drivers do not show support for Nvidia control panel display category as well as for the Adjust Desktop, specifically the Graph tab. The Color Settings page is not also available.
Although some setbacks have been experienced by Nvidia, there are measured improvements shown by an 8% improvement in the performance of Fallout 3 and a 10% improvement in F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. In addition, performance increase of 9% is shown in Half-Life 2 and 11% in Left 4 Dead. In Race Driver, a 10% improvement increase has been described.
Weighing the advantages over the disadvantages in downloading these new drivers has to be carefully considered. Of course, it all depends on the user, what he or she considers to be important factors in downloading the drivers.
